Counsellor, Sherbourne Health Centre

One year, full-time contract

Sherbourne Health Centre is a community based health centre situated in
South East Toronto. It is dedicated to providing a range of health care
services that enhance the quality of life of our diverse
communities.   

We are currently seeking a Counsellor to provide individual and group
services to adults (men and women) who experience emotional health
issues.  The successful candidate must be able to make the links
between trauma, substance use and psychiatric diagnosis.

The successful candidate must also demonstrate a commitment to working
with people who face barriers to service because of racism,
discrimination, poverty, homelessness, homophobia and transphobia.

This contract is to cover an employee leave.    

Requirements

  • Formal education/training in health or social sciences (Masters or equivalent)
  • 3 - 5 years of demonstrated skills providing therapy and group work
  • Familiarity with short term therapy models
  • Understands the links between trauma and psychiatric diagnosis
  • Experience working with people with substance use issues, homelessness and experiences of violence (past and present)
  • An understanding of an anti-oppression framework and experience working with clients who face various types of discrimination
