Senior Specialist Mission Information, Heart and Stroke Foundation of Ontario

Position: Senior Specialist Mission Information

Description of Position

The Senior Specialist Mission Information is responsible for providing
accurate cardiovascular and cerebrovascular research, scientific and
mission information to various internal and external Foundation
stakeholders.  This position acts as the point person for mission
content requests and the validation of mission and scientific
information and works closely with the Senior Science Officer, the
Senior Specialist Health Information and Heart and Stroke Foundation of
Canada (HSFC) to ensure the delivery of accurate information.

Key Accountabilities

1.    Quality Control
Ensure quality control of HSFO mission content.  This includes

  • Ensure quality control of good science and mission information
    (working with HSFC as appropriate) that supports the core functions of
    the Foundation through approving or facilitating approval of scientific
    and mission messaging that is accurate and timely while meeting
    stakeholder needs.
  • Employ a risk management filter when developing and supporting
    marketing messaging that puts a spin on mission information, to support
    the marketing of our message need, while protecting the integrity and
    accuracy of the message.
  • If required serve as the Foundation's mission/scientific spokesperson
  • Liaise with external creative suppliers as requested by internal stakeholders to approve mission content.
  • Work collaboratively with National office when creating content
    and national documents to ensure accuracy and minimize duplication of

2.    Mission Content Management & Knowledge Dissemination
Ensure provision of accurate research, scientific and mission
information to various internal and external stakeholders (in a
proactive and reactive manner). This includes

  • As go to person for mission information content requests provide
    the accurate information or cascade requests to the appropriate Mission
    Content Team members(the Senior Science Officer and Senior
    Specialist-Health Information) and follow to ensure Foundation mission
    content needs are met.
  • Proactively gather and maintain mission relevant information in
    support of Foundation Board approved and future strategies and
  • Maintain in-depth understanding of HSF funded research and researchers
  • Support and work with Senior Manager Research Programs to advise
    fundraising, marketing and sales teams and ensure that appropriate
    information is shared to support the productization of our mission
  • Support management tracking of donor supported mission investments

Key Tasks Related to Accountabilities

  • Proactively and reactively gather, identify, create and maintain
    accurate information and messaging on our mission investments in a
    mission content system and via key Foundation communication tools
    including: Intranet, research web pages on National website in Ontario
    section, and internal communication tools eg.Heartvine.
  • Provide accurate mission information to support fundraising and marketing strategies
  • Develop presentations working closely with lateral internal
    partners to targeting various audiences including volunteers and staff
    members (eg. CVD research content, Upcoming marketing of research
    projects, Research tangibility)
  • Identify and create "lay translations" of upcoming/recent
    publications from HSFO-funded researchers to various marketing uses

3.    Relationship Management. This includes

  • Communicate with mission experts (internal and external) to
    create support for HSFO initiatives and gather accurate mission
    information on relevant topics

Key Challenges

  • Ability to prioritize multiple requests from
    mission information seekers in a timely manner while meeting the needs
    of multiple stakeholders
  • Understand and manage scope of position and filter mission queries appropriately
  • Management of mission information

Other Requirements

  • M.Sc. or equivalent through experience of the
    cardio/cerebrovascular systems at least at one of the following levels:
    molecular, cellular, physiological, pathological, behavioural as well
    as epidemiological awareness
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office programs, input data into a website and use of associated programs.
  • Ability to learn new programs relative to the tasks assigned.
  • A proven track record of successful project management
