Preamble

The Griffin Centre is a unique mental health centre that provides a
range of services for individuals with complex needs associated with
developmental disabilities (i.e., dual diagnosis) and/or serious
psychiatric, serious emotional and/or behavioural concerns. 
Griffin Centre welcomes youth, families and adults from all communities

Position Description

Griffin Centre is looking for an HIV/AIDS Project Coordinator for 8
hours a week to coordinate our HIV/AIDS prevention project with young
gay and bisexual men (including transmen) from Black, Asian, and Latino
communities in north Toronto.

Position Responsibilities

  • Coordinate HIV prevention project including weekly peer-led drop-in group and monthly social outings
  • Coordinate relevant community outreach activities, with a focus
    on young men (including transmen) who are gay, bisexual and/or men who
    have sex with men from Black, Asian and Latino communities in north
    Toronto
  • Participate in training of three Peer Outreach Workers
  • Work collaboratively with team of Peer Outreach Workers and LGBT Program Coordinator
  • Participate in relevant training on HIV/AIDS prevention and project evaluation
  • Assist with coordination of a formal project evaluation
  • Connect and communicate with HIV/AIDS Peer Workers at other
    agencies in the City of Toronto through an annual community gathering
    and an online forum
  • Coordinate electronic communication for the project and improve LGBT Program online presence

Position Requirements/qualifications:

  • Experience with project coordination
  • Strong knowledge of team building and conflict resolution
  • Experience and comfort working with young men who have sex with men from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Knowledge of HIV/AIDS, STI's safer sex and risk reduction principles and practices
  • Knowledge of North Quadrant (former North York)
  • Ability to work evenings, some weekends and occasional weekdays
  • Strong commitment to anti-racist and anti-oppression frameworks
  • Approach to work is trans-positive, queer positive and sex positive
  • Experience with website development and graphic design an asset
  • Proficiency in a second language considered to be an asset

Salary: $17.32 per hour (8 hours per week)
Contract: October 2006 * June 30, 2007
