Manager, Health Promotion Programs, The University of British Columbia

Position Overview

Health Promotion Programs (HPP) comprise an integrated set of strategic
policies and initiatives that foster institutional and personal
commitment to health and well-being through proactive activities and
services.  This includes management of cases of employees away
from work due to illness and/or injury including those requiring
workplace accommodations.  The Manager is a key member of the
Department of Health, Safety and Environment and is responsible for the
strategic and operational planning of HPP and for ensuring ongoing
implementation, evaluation and modification of the program.  The
Manager provides coaching, direction and support to the Health
Promotion team and works collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
within and external to the University.

Key responsibilities/roles of Health Promotion Programs

  • Lead University-wide health and wellness initiatives
  • Facilitate the early return to productive work of injured and ill workers
  • Prevent and reduce the severity of musculoskeletal injuries of employees through targeted interventions
  • Coordinate the development and communication of public health
    information strategies Manage the post-injury administrative claims
    procedure involving WorkSafeBC; and
  • Provide assistance for those individuals with long-term disabilities requiring access to the Income Replacement Plan (IRP).

The Manager leads a team of nine (9) Health Promotion Program professional and support staff.

Qualifications

  • A university degree in health sciences or business/commerce with an
    emphasis on return to work, disability management, human resources,
    change management, health promotion and program development or an
    equivalent combination of skills and experience.  
  • Graduate degree in related field(s) an asset.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning and
    development in the areas of occupational health and safety, change
    management, workplace wellness, strategic planning, program evaluation
    and leadership.
  • A minimum of 5 years of progressive experience leading others in
    sustainable organizational change in a complex unionized organization
    is required.

This is a 1 year full-time position, with possibility of extension to permanent status.
