Position: Team Leader - Knowledge Management

to be determined by the Ontario Ministry of Health Promotion
Dietitians of Canada (DC) is working with the Ontario Ministry of
Health Promotion to establish and pilot a Dietitian Advisory Service
(DAS) as an element of the Ministry's comprehensive "Healthy Eating and
Active Living Action Plan". DC will establish and pilot a call
centre staffed by Registered Dietitians to provide residents of Ontario
with easy access to healthy eating advice through a toll-free telephone
number. This call center service will be launched in early spring
of 2007, and piloted for a year. The Ministry of Health Promotion
will determine the long term Dietitian's Advisory Service plan to
follow the call centre pilot phase scheduled to end March 31. 2008.
The Team Lead - Knowledge Management is primarily responsible for the
information products, partnerships and networks needed to create and
maintain the collection of information resources in the call centre
electronic knowledge-base (O-PEN) used by call centre dietitians to
answer questions from the public and health professionals. The
Dietitian Advisory Service will be known for timely, easy to understand
and consistent answers to questions pertaining to food and nutrition
and health and well-being. Where more in-depth health services
are required the call centre staff will have ready access to referral
information for call centre clients. The Dietitians Advisory
Service operates within a broader public health services system and the
Manager will develop networks that encourage sharing and collaboration
for collection development.
- Degree in food/nutrition or dietetics is required; Master's
degree in nutrition or adult education preferred. Professional
development in knowledge transfer, knowledge translation and knowledge
management would be an asset.
- Eligible for registration with the College of Dietitians of Ontario
- Minimum of five years experience in dietetics requiring critical
appraisal of the literature, client information resources evaluation
and development, counseling, coaching and team work.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, team skills, information
management skills and communication skills are required. Advanced
computer skills for knowledge research and information management would

- Develop and monitor a collection development strategy for the
call centre electronic knowledge base, consistent with DC's
Practice-based Evidence in Nutrition (PEN©) system.
- Contribute to DC's PEN Operations Team to identify priorities for
knowledge base development and for development and management of a
collaborative work plan.
- Provide orientation and ongoing training and supervision for call
centre staff and contractors on use of the knowledge-base and
development and uploading evidence-based information products.
- Research and provide standardized responses for call centre
dietitians to use for responding to common questions and timely
guidance for responding to unusual or complex questions and emerging
- As a Member of the Call Centre Management Team contribute to and
oversee knowledge management policies and procedures, budgets,
continuous quality improvements, service monitoring and evaluation.
