Health & Wellness Coordinator, Bernard Betel Centre

The Bernard Betel Centre is a not-for-profit learning and wellness centre located in North York which is committed to improving the life of seniors.  Its philosophy is to provide a holistic approach to health promotion and disease prevention. Services include health screening clinics, fitness, chiropody, lectures, support groups, and alternative therapies.

(Full Time -  35 hours)

Position Summary

The Health Promotions Coordinator will assess the needs of our clients and plan, deliver, and evaluate health promotion programs to meet these needs.  Current programs and services include health screening clinics, fitness classes, health promotion lectures, support groups, memory programs, and alternative therapies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, plan, deliver, and evaluate the outcome of various health promotion/wellness and fitness programs, and recommend new program initiatives to meet unmet needs in the community
  • Provide orientation, training, and on-going support and supervision to Chiropody Administrative Assistant and assigned volunteers
  • Leads or directs several wellness programs, such as Memory Boosters and Wellness Presentations
  • Provide staff support to the members' Wellness Committee
  • Plans,  organizes and contributes to special events geared to seniors

Qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in wellness or health promotion, or equivalent
  • Background in wellness with proven experience in health promotion program planning, implementation, and evaluation
  • Team player experienced in working with staff, members and volunteers
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, planning, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Demonstrated ability to work under pressure and in a fast-paced environment
  • Experience in writing funding proposals preferred

Preference will be given to candidates who also have any of the following:

  • Ability to speak Russian, Yiddish, Hebrew or another language
  • Experience working with seniors and in an ethno-specific environment
  • Experience working with Members, Residents, or Client Advisory councils
